Mobile Boarding Pass not accepted at these airports
Ryanair: Digital Boarding Pass and Travel Tips
More and more travelers are choosing to show their boarding pass on their mobile phone nowadays.
Not only does this reduce the risk of forgetting it, but it also offers a more environmentally friendly solution compared to the paper counterpart.
Ryanair, a well-known low-cost airline in Italy, accepts this method, as do many other companies.
However, it has recently been reported that some airports do not consider digital boarding passes valid.
Passengers flying with Ryanair must therefore check the specific conditions depending on their destination.
Although smartphones have replaced traditional methods in many sectors, there are still limitations.
For example, the dematerialization of identification documents is still in development, while mobile payments are already widespread.
Normally, digital tickets for transportation are valid, but travelers must always be careful not to rely too heavily on habits and risk being without a valid ticket.
Airports where Digital Boarding Pass is Not Accepted
According to Ryanair’s official website, digital boarding passes are not accepted at airports in Turkey, Morocco, and Tirana (Albania).
For all other destinations, passengers can show their boarding pass on their mobile phone using the dedicated mobile app or as a simple file.
The inability to accept the digital version of the boarding pass is presumably due to specific local regulations, as all other airports where the airline operates do not follow the same rule.
There are no similar restrictions in Turkey for flights operated by other airlines, although passengers are still advised to carefully check the boarding conditions of their chosen airline.
Conversely, departures from Morocco often require a paper boarding pass.
Travelers heading to Turkey, Morocco, or the Albanian capital can still check in online and use the digital version upon departure.
However, they must print the paper boarding pass for the return flight with Ryanair.
This limitation only applies to flights departing from the mentioned airports.
For outbound flights, the regulations of the departure location apply, allowing digital boarding passes if not among the restricted airports.
What if you Don’t Have a Paper Boarding Pass?
As clearly stated by the airline, a paper boarding pass is essential to board flights departing from the aforementioned airports.
Without it, passengers will not be allowed to board, even if they have the digital equivalent.
It is therefore necessary to prepare in advance and print the boarding pass after online check-in.
Websites and travel communities (such as TripAdvisor) often provide useful insights from travelers who have faced similar situations, indicating where to quickly print the document if needed.
How to Use Ryanair Boarding Pass on Your Phone
Except for the mentioned exceptions, Ryanair-operated airports allow passengers to show their boarding pass digitally to board the aircraft.
Travelers can either install the Ryanair mobile app to access all trip details or display the pdf file downloaded from the website after completing online check-in.
Of course, this is the same document to be printed for Ryanair flights from Morocco, Turkey, or Tirana.
