Pensions 2024, taxes change with the new Irpef: here's how

For 2024 pensions there are important changes that not only concern the measures that allow access, but also the taxation of pension income.
In fact, with the 2024 Budget Law, a merging of the first two income brackets under a single Irpef rate, 23%, has been envisaged.
This will bring advantages to pensioners for whom, however, neither the no tax area nor the deductions due will change.
The 2024 Irpef will be calculated on three income brackets and no longer on four and this will determine a change in the taxes due for all those with incomes above 15,000 euros, given that they will have effects (for everyone) on incomes between 15,000 and 28,000 EUR.
In fact, from next year the IRPEF rate applied to these incomes will be 23% and no longer 25% as expected until 31 December 2023.

In 2023 Irpef is due according to the following rates: up to 15,000 euros at 23%; from 15,000 to 28,000 euros at 25%; from 28,000 to 50,000 euros at 35%; over 50,000 euros at 43%.
In 2024, as a result of the merging of the first and second income brackets, the rates will become three, specifically: up to 28,000 euros at 23%; from 28,000 to 50,000 euros at 35%; over 50,000 euros at 43%.
Unlike what one might think from a first reading of the change, this does not only affect incomes from 15,000 to 28,000 euros, but all incomes over 15,000.
Taxation on pensions, how is it changing? For those who receive a pension of up to 15,000 euros there will be no changes, given that the rate applied will remain unchanged.
However, for those who receive pensions with an income exceeding 15,000 euros, taxation is lower.
We see in the following table some examples of different taxation between 2023 and 2024: Gross income Irpef paid today Irpef to be paid in 2024 Annual savings Monthly increase 15,000 euros 3,450 euros 3,450 euros 0 euros 0 euros 18,000 euros 4,200 euros 4,140 euros 60 euros 5 euros 20,000 euros 4,700 euros 4,600 euros 100 euros 8.33 euros 25,000 euros 5,950 euros 5,750 euros 200 euros 16.66 euros 28,000 euros 6,700 euros 6,440 euros 260 euros 21.66 euros 35,000 euros 9,150 euros 8,890 euros 260 euros 21 .66 euros 42,000 euros 11,600 euros 11,340 euros 260 euros 21.66 euros 50,000 euros 14,400 euros 14,140 euros 260 euros 21.66 euros Note that for incomes exceeding 50,000 euros the 260 euros of savings on the Irpef due will be eliminated by an exemption imposed on the deductions that will be recognized only after the first 260 euros due.
What can be seen from the illustrated table is that the maximum gain from the new Irpef will be for incomes between 28,000 and 50,000 euros.
However, the no-tax area for pensioners remains unchanged and all those with an annual income of up to 8,500 euros per year will continue to receive the pension without the application of Irpef.
