Political Polls: PD Plummets as Meloni Surges Past 30%, Positive Trends for M5S and Salvini
Political Landscape Update from Swg Poll
The recent political survey conducted by Swg, unveiled on September 2nd by Tg La7’s Enrico Mentana, reveals promising news for the current government coalition.
Throughout August, the coalition has gained nearly a full percentage point in voting intentions.
Leading the charge for the center-right is Giorgia Meloni, with her party, Fratelli d’Italia, reportedly surpassing the 30% mark in the polls.
If these numbers hold true, it signifies that nearly one in three voters might currently support the Prime Minister’s party.
This growth persists despite lukewarm initial reports about the 2025 Budget Law, reflecting Meloni’s resilience against political backlash.
Matteo Salvini can also take solace from the survey, as the Lega appears to have reclaimed its position as the second strongest entity within the government coalition.
However, internal tensions persist, with concerns about a potential split, particularly around Roberto Vannacci’s considerations of forming a new party.
Additionally, Forza Italia shows signs of recovery in the polls after a month of advocating for the ius scholae.
The crucial question remains whether the party will genuinely propose legislation on this topic, despite their coalition partners’ apparent indifference.
Opposition Forces in Decline
Turning to the opposition forces, the Swg poll indicates a significant downturn for the Partito Democratico (Pd), which is drifting further from Giorgia Meloni’s popularity.
This decline may correlate with speculations surrounding Matteo Renzi’s potential re-integration into the center-left fold.
Renzi has been actively suggesting an alliance with Elly Schlein, who is yet to make a definitive move.
On the other hand, the Movimento 5 Stelle is experiencing an upward trend in the polls following their disappointing performance in the European elections, while Alleanza Verdi-Sinistra also appears to be benefiting from the Pd’s current struggles.
Renzi’s shift, however, seems to have little effect on Italia Viva, which remains precariously close to falling below the 3% electoral threshold, a level that Azione reportedly surpasses with stability.
Lastly, August has not been kind to +Europa and Pace Terra Dignità , as both parties are now facing declines and are far from passing the crucial electoral threshold.
