What happened to Roberto Benigni? What the Tuscan comedian is doing today
What happened to Roberto Benigni? A question that many will have asked themselves lately given that the Tuscan comedian, after having been an authentic protagonist of the small and big screen for years, has been away from the spotlight for some time.
Yet we are talking about one of the most famous Italian artists in the world, capable of winning two Oscars in 1999 – as best leading actor and best foreign film – with his masterpiece Life is Beautiful.
His last film as an actor dates back to 2019, Pinocchio by Matteo Garrone, while as a director to find his latest work you have to go back to 2005 with The Tiger and the Snow: after the record takings of La Vita e Bella or Il Mostro or Johnny Stecchino, the film did not repay the large budget available at the box office.
In the meantime, however, Roberto Benigni has done a lot of theatre, not disdaining frequent television appearances, especially to stage The Divine Comedy or The Ten Commandments.
But what is Roberto Benigni doing today? Considering his estimated wealth, the actor probably won't have the worry of having to work at all costs but, knowing the character's creativity, there will certainly be several projects he will be working on.

Assets and earnings of the Tuscan comedian What Roberto Benigni is doing today Roberto Benigni, after so much theater and television, at the beginning of his career had his consecration thanks to the film Non ci Resta che Piangere, then repeating the success with several other films which have rightfully entered the history of Italian cinema up to the international success of La Vita รจ Bella.
The international fame is due, in addition to the celebration at the moment of winning the Oscar, also to the participation in American blockbusters such as Woody Allen's To Rome with Love.
In Italy his last television appearance was at the 2023 Sanremo Festival where, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the entry into force of the Italian Constitution, he paid homage to the Charter on the Ariston stage.
With the change in governance at Rai, we are unlikely to see Roberto Benigni again in the next edition of the Sanremo Festival, just as there would not seem to be room in the schedules for an artist who has always been a symbol of the left.
For years, news has been given that Benigni is working on writing a new film, while the project to bring The Divine Comedy to the big screen seems to have been shelved.
