How to Vote in the 2024 European Elections
Many people are wondering how to vote in the upcoming 2024 European elections as we approach the voting day.
The sample ballots for the 2024 European elections have been made public by the Ministry of the Interior, with polling stations in Italy set to open on June 8th and 9th to elect 76 Members of the European Parliament using a proportional voting system with a 4% electoral threshold.
When and How to Vote Correctly in the 2024 European Elections
The 2024 European elections will take place on Saturday, June 8th (from 3 pm to 11 pm) and Sunday, June 9th (from 7 am to 11 pm).
To vote, you must go to your polling station with your voting card and a valid identification document.
A significant change is the opportunity for out-of-town students to vote in the 2024 European elections in the municipality where they are domiciled, provided they applied by May 5th by completing the appropriate form.
To vote correctly, the voter must mark an X on the chosen list’s emblem or in the rectangle containing it, using the provided copying pencil at the polling station.
If the voter marks multiple emblems, the vote is invalid.
After voting, the voter must carefully fold the ballot inside the voting booth and return it to the polling station president.
As for preferences, the voter can express up to a maximum of three preferences, exclusively for candidates on the selected list.
In the designated lines next to the chosen list’s emblem, the voter writes the name and surname or just the surname of the preferred candidates.
If multiple preferences are expressed, they must concern candidates of different genders (e.g., in the case of two preferences: female-male or vice versa; in the case of three preferences: female-female-male or vice versa; female-male-female or vice versa).
If the voter expresses multiple preferences for candidates of the same gender, preferences after the first one are voided.
In the case of minority language lists, only one preference can be expressed.
