European elections 2024, when will we vote in Italy? Even though there is still a year left until the polls open in the 27 countries that are part of the European Union, the ambassadors of the EU member states have already decided the date of the community consultation: voting will take place from 6 to 9 June 2024.

As per practice, the Council of the European Union unanimously decided the date of the vote.
The ambassadors of the 27 member countries of the European Union have decided to call European elections from 6 to 9 June 2024, with Italy likely to vote on Sunday 9 June.
If each country can independently decide the date of the European elections – always remaining within the range from Thursday 6th to Sunday 9th June 2024 – the counting will begin simultaneously in all states, probably starting from 11pm on Sunday 9th June .
The European Parliament In the 2024 European elections, the citizens of the European Union will vote to elect a total of 705 MEPs: previously there were 751 but, after Brexit, the inevitable cut has arrived.
By law each member state can elect a maximum of 96 MEPs and a minimum of 6; Italy will bring 73 parliamentarians to Brussels and Strasbourg: only Germany (96) and France (79) will elect more than us.
Each state will elect its deputies through its own electoral law which, consequently, will not be the same for all member countries.
Electoral law The electoral law in Italy for the European elections is a pure proportional system: the country is divided into five constituencies (North-West, North-East, Centre, South and Islands), with a threshold at national level for the lists set at 4%.

Southern Italy: 18 V.
Insular Italy: 8 The electoral law provides for the possibility of expressing a preferential vote: each voter can indicate up to three candidates from the voted constituency list.
The candidates At the moment there is only one official candidate among the big names in the 2024 European elections: Matteo Renzi, who announced his presence among the ranks of the Il Centro list which, in addition to Italia Viva, should also see the presence of other moderate figures.
Also in the centrist area, the former mayor of Milan Letizia Moratti and the leader of South Call North Cateno De Luca could run; in the centre-right, however, there is a lot of talk about Arianna Meloni, sister of Prime Minister Giorgia, as well as a possible return of Roberto Formigoni.
In the Democratic Party there could be Enrico Letta while, as regards the 5 Star Movement, Giuseppe Conte should not grant special exemptions to those who have already held two mandates in Italy or Europe: among the Five Star Movement, however, one of the hottest names is that of Rocco Casalino.
There is also great movement on the left, where the former president of the Puglia Region Nichi Vendola could run with Avs, with the journalist Michele Santoro who could soon announce his own pacifist list to present to the European elections.

As can be seen, the polls for the 2024 European elections would see the Ursula majority (PP, S&D and Re) decreasing which, from a total of 421 MEPs in 2019, could go to 394 parliamentarians.
