Italy, 5 teams in the 2024/2025 Champions League? UEFA ranking and regulations

Italy could qualify five teams for the next Champions League.
No, it is not an early April Fool's joke but one of the effects of the reform of the European Cups wanted by UEFA which will come into force starting from next season.
What was played in recent days were the last group matches for the Champions League, Europe and Conference League.
Starting from the 2024/2025 season, in fact, the three Cups will change their format: 36 clubs and no longer 32 will compete in a single ranking, playing eight games each.
The participating teams will be divided into four brackets based on ranking and each club will face two teams for each bracket without being able to face compatriot teams.
However, Serie A could benefit from the increase in participating clubs.
The four extra places in the Champions League will in fact be assigned as follows: one will go to the third place in the league in the fifth federation in the UEFA ranking; another place will be awarded to a championship winner; the last two places will instead be assigned to the Federations that achieved the best collective result in the previous season.
Precisely this last point could open up interesting prospects for Italy, given the good progress so far of the Italian teams involved in the Champions League, Europe and Conference League.

Italy will consequently be able to qualify five teams for the next Champions League if it manages to be among the top two Federations in the UEFA ranking.

However, everything will depend on what happens in the next rounds, with the scores assigned as follows: 0.5 points for each draw in the European and Conference playoff phases and in the direct elimination phase in the Champions League; one point for victory in the European and Conference playoff phases and in the Champions League knockout stage; one point for each round passage from the Conference quarter-finals (semi-finals and final); one point for each round from the round of 16 onwards (quarter-finals, semi-finals and final) of the Champions League and Europa League.
