Unlike the other Regions, in this round voting will take place in a single day.
As regards timetables, the polling stations in Trentino-Alto Adige will remain open from 07:00 to 22:00, with the counting of votes starting as soon as the electoral operations have concluded.
The results will therefore begin to arrive during the night.
The electoral law The electoral laws that characterize the regional elections in Trentino-Alto Adige are different: in Trento there is in fact the direct election of the president, which however does not happen in Bolzano.
In Trento the electoral system is proportional with a majority bonus; voting takes place in a single round with the obligation to link each list (or group of lists) to a candidate for president of the province.
Voting is done using a single ballot and separate voting is not permitted.
However, it is possible to express up to two preferences (provided the second is for a candidate of a different gender than the first) for the candidates for the position of councilor on the chosen list.
The 34 seats will be assigned using the d'Hondt method, with a majority bonus to the list or group of lists linked to the presidential candidate who obtained the most votes.
In Bolzano the electoral law is pure proportional, with the Imperial quotient method and the highest remainders.
Voters are asked to vote on the party lists, choosing four candidates from among them who will run for the assignment of the 35 seats that make up the Provincial Council.
Once the composition of the Provincial Council has been determined, it will be up to the councilors to elect the president of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano given that in Alto Adige there is no direct election of the head of the executive.
The candidates Unlike what happens in Bolzano, in Trento the voters will be asked to vote directly for the president of the Province among the various candidates who presented themselves in the elections.
These are the seven candidates for the 2023 Trentino provincial elections and which parties and lists will support them.
Elena Dardo: Alternative.
Filippo Degasperi: Unione Popolare, Onda Civica, La Me Val – Primiero Vanoi Mis.
Sergio Divina: Popular Alternative, Us with Divina, Young people for Divina President.
Maurizio Fugatti: Lega, Fratelli d'Italia, Forza Italia, Udc, Patt, Noi Trentino per Fugatti President, La Civica, Fassa.
Alex Marini: 5 Star Movement.
Marco Rizzo: Sovereign and Popular Democracy.
Francesco Valduga: Pd, Action, Italia Viva, Green-Left Alliance, Campobase, Casa Autonomia.Eu, Fascegn.
As said in Trento, the current president Maurizio Fugatti has formalized his intention to run for a second mandate: in addition to Lega, Forza Italia, UDC, Patt and the civic lists, in the end there will also be Fratelli d'Italia.
Former Northern League member Sergio Divina will run solo for Alternativa Popolare.
The Democratic Party instead has decided to focus on the mayor of Rovereto Francesco Valduga, with the coalition that should also include Action, Italia Viva, Green Europe and the Italian Left.
However, the 5 Star Movement will not be in the coalition which, as presidential candidate, has chosen to focus on the current five-star councilor Alex Marini.
The former grillino Filippo Degasperi will instead be on the field with Onda which includes political forces such as Potere al Popolo and Rifondazione, while the other 5 Star Alternativo members who left will present themselves with Elena Dardo.
Finally, Marco Rizzo, now leader of Democracy Sovereign Popular, will not be missing.
In Alto Adige, however, there are 16 lists in the running: TEAM K MOVEMENT 5 STARS ENZIAN SÜDTIROL STF SÜDTIROLER FREIHEIT PD DEMOCRATIC PARTY – DEMOKRATISCHE PARTEI VERDI GRÜNE VËRC FRATELLI D'ITALIA LA CIVICA JWA – WIRTH ANDERLAN DIE FREIHEITLICCHEN FORZA ITALIA VITA CENTER RIGHT SVP SÜDTIROLER VOLKSPARTEI LEAG SALVINI ALTO ADIGE SÜDTIROL – UNITED FOR SOUTH TYROL FÜR SÜDTIROL MIT WIDMANN As mentioned, given the proportional electoral law, the president will be decided by the elected councilors.
