New €1,000 coins arriving from the Mint, is it worth investing in collectible euros?

Great news for rare coin collectors.
The draft Budget Law 2024 expands the denominations that the State Printing and Mint Institute can issue as legal tender investment euros.
Specifically, coins with a value of up to 1,000 euros will be launched on the market.
If to date collectors of this type of coin can only choose between denominations worth 5, 10, 20 and 50 euros, if the novelty included in Maneuver were to be confirmed the collector's euros will have the following denominations: 0.25 and 0.75 cents and 1.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 20, 25, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 euros, with legal tender only in Italy.
And not only.
In addition to the possibility for the State Printing and Mint Institute to mint coins in multiple and higher denominations, the Maneuver introduces the creation of paper values – for which the Institute itself is responsible – in digital format.
1,000 collector coins.
News from the 2024 Budget Law In the 2024 Budget Law, in the art.
15 of the draft text, therefore far from being official, reads: ART.
15.
(Measures for the State Printing and Mint Institute) 1.
Article 87, paragraph 5, of law 27 December 2002, n.
289, the first sentence is replaced by the following «The minting and issuing of coins for collectors having legal tender status is authorized only in Italy in denominations of 0.25, 0.75, 1.5, 3, 4, 5, 6 , 10, 20, 25, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 euros.».
The Budget Law thus expands the minting denominations of collector coins that the Mint can issue to collectors, up to a maximum of 1,000 euros per coin.
These are legal tender, but only in Italy.
Is it worth investing in collectible euros? For some time now, in the eyes of collectors, numismatics has appeared to be a safe and profitable investment choice.
But much, if not all, lies in the scarcity of the currency and its condition.
The rarer a collector's coin is, whether it is recently minted or ancient, and the more the coin is in excellent condition (preferably "uncirculated", as they say in the sector), the more value the coin will have.
We are also talking about tens of thousands of euros.
Among the advantages of investing in collector coins, we find: fast liquidation of the investment.
Unlocking your investment in numismatics is not as fast as operating on a securities account, but through dealers and public auctions the times can still be quick.
returns.
Since the numismatics market is strongly characterized by demand far exceeding supply, returns on investment are generally higher than inflation rates.
few taxes.
In public auctions, you pay VAT only on commissions.
investment costs.
If safe deposit boxes are not used, the management costs of investing in collector coins are very low, if not zero.
Especially in numismatics, investment is associated with a strong passionate component, so as to bring the approach to the sector into an area halfway between investing and having a hobby.
This approach makes the purchase of collectible euros less controversial, rather than old liras or foreign coins, but the convenience can still be found, especially in the case of collectible euros with very limited circulation.
Specifically, the collector's coins minted by the State Printing and Mint Institute can also be purchased online on the official website, with home delivery and legal guarantee of conformity.
All the news for the State Printing and Mint Institute from 2024 Regarding digitalisation, however, we read as follows: 2.
Article 2 of law 13 July 1966, n.
559, the following is inserted after paragraph 10-bis: «10-ter.
The institute is the entity designated for the creation, personalization and management also of the digital format of the products considered value cards pursuant to the previous paragraph 10-bis) and of the physical documents whose production is entrusted to the same.", thus providing that the Institute becomes "the entity designated for the creation, customization and management also of the digital format of the products considered value cards and of the physical documents whose production is entrusted to the Institute".
In this regard, we remind you that the State Printing and Mint Institute is responsible for producing the electronic identity card, electronic passport, European driving licenses and tax stamps.
To support the implementation of security card traceability systems, the Maneuver provides for an investment of 1 million euros every year from 2024 to 2026 inclusive.
Furthermore, the draft text provides for the possibility for the National Cybersecurity Agency to avail itself of the support of the Mint for measures and activities related to the national cybersecurity strategy.
