Workers in Retail Sector to Receive Salary Increase After Contract Renewal

Employees of major retailers such as Ikea, Zara, Esselunga, Carrefour, and many others are set to receive a salary increase of 240 euros.
This is one of the most significant outcomes of the renewal of the National Collective Bargaining Agreement (Ccnl) for the modern and organized retail sector.

Key Points of the Contract Renewal

After months of tensions, which culminated in the strike of supermarkets on Saturday, March 30, Federdistribuzione has finally reached an agreement with the trade unions Filcams-Cgil, Fisascat-Cisl, and Uiltucs-Uil.
This agreement closes a long negotiation process for all retail contracts that expired about 5 years ago at the end of 2019.

Federdistribuzione stated that the negotiation process was concluded with an agreement that “demonstrates attention to the sector’s workers and meets the sustainability needs of modern retail companies.”

The renewal of the collective national contract for the retail sector includes several novelties.
One of the main achievements is the contractual increase of 240 euros at the fourth level, to be recalibrated.
This means that employees of various companies such as Ikea, Carrefour, Zara, and others will benefit from this raise.

The contract will be valid until March 31, 2027, and includes not only the salary increase but also a one-off payment of 350 euros.
This should result in a total wage payout of 7,180 euros, including the one-time payment.

Furthermore, there will be an increase in the annual allowance of the part-time flexible clause, going from 120 to 155 euros annually.
Additionally, a new economic provision has been introduced in case the contract is not renewed after 6 months from expiration.

New Regulations and Commitments

Several topics were addressed during the renewal of the retail sector’s Ccnl.
From the update of personnel classification to the enhancement of distinctive roles and professional skills, commitments were made to tackle gender-based violence, increase minimum working hours for part-time employees, extend job opportunities for young people during weekends, and strengthen work-life balance measures.

The president of Federdistribuzione, Carlo Alberto Buttarelli, highlighted the companies’ commitment to balancing respect for workers’ rights with economic sustainability.
The trade unions also emphasized the joint effort that led to improved working conditions and remuneration after previous struggles.

Overall, the renewal of the national collective bargaining agreement for the retail sector represents a significant step towards better working conditions and fairer compensation for employees in the industry.
