By simply clicking on the button, users are directed to a screen where they can easily choose who or where to share the content with.
This icon is not present for all messages within a chat, but specifically appears next to shared content such as photos, preview links, GIFs, locations, contacts, and similar items.
These are the types of content that are commonly shared, prompting WhatsApp to introduce this feature for a more efficient sharing experience.
On iPhone devices, the button looks slightly different, featuring a single arrow instead of a double arrow, although its function remains the same.
WhatsApp is also testing a new position for this button in the beta version of the app, potentially relocating it to the bottom along with the well-known blue checkmarks.
While the meaning and purpose remain unchanged, this adjustment aims to optimize screen space utilization.
However, it may take a considerable amount of time before this additional modification reaches all smartphones.
