Rai License Fee 2025: What Will You Pay? New Measures Introduced
Confirmation of the Rai License Fee Reduction for 2025
During a recent press conference, Italy’s Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti, along with Deputy Minister Maurizio Leo, confirmed the reduction of the Rai license fee for the year 2025, initially introduced in the 2024 budget plan.
So, what will be the new payment amount?
The 2024 budget law outlined a reduction of the Rai license fee to €70, effective until December 31, 2024.
This measure is set to continue into 2025, providing some relief to taxpayers.
Public Sentiments About the Rai Fee
The Rai license fee has long been one of the least favored taxes among citizens.
Often, there are sensational headlines about the potential elimination of this fee or its removal from energy bills.
However, these claims are typically suggestions that have yet to materialize.
The current system of collecting the Rai fee through energy bills significantly diminishes evasion risks, explaining the reluctance to consider alternative payment methods.
Details of the Fee Structure
According to the recent budget plan, the Rai license fee will decrease from €90 to €70 for 2024.
However, this change is not a permanent fixture unless confirmed by a subsequent directive or within the 2025 budget.
Encouragingly, the government has chosen the latter, affirming during the October 16, 2024, press conference that taxpayers can expect the same fee structure for 2025 as in the previous year.
Energy Bill Guidelines and Exemptions
Currently, the fee is applied at €15 every two months, confirming an annual total of €70.
It is important to note that there are no expected changes to the rules regarding exemptions from the Rai fee.
Exempt individuals include:
- Those without a television or receiving device.
- People over 75 with an income below €8,000.
- Military personnel in military residences but not in private dwellings.
- Foreign NATO military members.
- Diplomatic agents from countries that reciprocate the same treatment to Italy.
- TV repair shops dealing solely with their stock.
