The Champions League is back for the 2024/25 season, and with it comes a lot of changes—not just in the format but also in the broadcasting rights in Italy for Europe’s premier club tournament.

As we await the conclusion of the final qualifying matches, the official draw will soon take place to kick off the new format, featuring five Italian teams: Inter, Juventus, Milan, Bologna, and Atalanta.

The New Format Explained

Gone are the traditional group stages.
This season, the 36 qualified teams will compete in an Italian-style league format, where each club will play eight matches—four at home and four away.
Teams will face opponents from each tier: two from the first pot, two from the second, two from the third, and two from the fourth.

The top eight teams will automatically qualify for the knockout rounds, while the next sixteen will enter a playoff to complete the round of 16.
The remaining teams will be eliminated without the opportunity to enter the Europa League.

Where to Watch the Champions League on TV

For the 2024-2027 cycle, Sky has secured the broadcasting rights, and will air 185 of the 203 scheduled matches exclusively.
In addition, Amazon Prime Video has acquired rights to stream the remaining 18 matches, highlighting one standout game featuring an Italian club each Wednesday.

Notably, no network has obtained rights for weekly free broadcasts of Italian matches, as Mediaset has opted out of Champions League coverage.
Instead, TV8, part of the Sky group, will air one free match per round, though it will not feature Italian teams.

Champions League Viewing Costs

Fans wishing to watch their favorite Italian teams, including Inter, Milan, Juventus, Atalanta, and Bologna, will need to subscribe to a plan.
Sky offers a promotion until September 3rd: for €29.90 per month for 18 months instead of €51.90.
