Deadline for 730/2024 Tax Returns: July 15 to Receive Refunds in August
Deadline for Model 730/2024 Refunds Fast Approaching
For those who filed the Model 730/2024 too late, the possibility of receiving a refund in July has slipped away.
Now, those looking to receive the sum quickly must aim for the August paycheck.
This makes it crucial to keep in mind the July 15 deadline, which is essential for Irpef refunds: it is the final date for submitting your declaration to ensure a refund in the August payslip.
August Paycheck Schedule
It’s important to note that for private sector employees, the August paycheck is usually processed in the first 15 days of September.
For public sector employees, on the other hand, it’s at the end of August.
Pensioners who submitted their declaration by July 15 will receive the refund with the September pension slip.
July Deadline and Subsequent Steps
In July, the deadline for the second time slot is set, followed by two more.
CAF and intermediaries will communicate to the Revenue Agency the data of the submitted declarations and the corresponding settlement statements to initiate the tax refund operations.
Changes in Refund Procedures
Previously, July was the month for Irpef refunds in the paycheck, but everything changed starting in 2020.
The Cura Italia decree advanced the changes outlined in the Tax Decree, altering the rules for filing the Model 730.
Not only did the deadline for electronic transmission change, but the entire tax refund procedure was overhauled.
The taxpayer now has more time and can choose to defer the deadline for submitting the tax return until the end of September.
While this offers more time, it significantly impacts tax settlement operations, including refunds and Irpef deductions.
Receiving Tax Refunds and Deadlines
There are five different time slots for tax refunds, including those due to overpaid Irpef, post-bonus Renzi disbursements, or indicated deductible expenses in the 730 form.
Declarations submitted from June 21 to July 15, 2024, will have data transmitted to the Revenue Agency by July 23.
The Irpef refund in the paycheck will start from the first usable remuneration for the month following the transmission of the settlement statement, hence the August 2024 payslip.
The same timeline applies to debt settlements.
For declarations prepared from July 16 to August 31, 2023, intermediaries will transmit the data by September 15, and the final deadline is for those filing from September 1 to 30, 2024, with a cutoff date for submission on September 30.
Checks for Refunds over €4,000
When it comes to Irpef refunds, if the amount exceeds €4,000, the Revenue Agency carries out specific preventive checks and directly disburses the owed sum.
This preventive block is mandated by law to control significant changes in pre-filled declarations resulting in refunds over €4,000.
The Agency will conduct automated checks or verify expense documents within four months of the Model 730 submission deadline.
Following the verification process, refunds are paid within six months.
In the worst-case scenario, payments may extend to March 2025 if the Model 730/2024 was submitted by the ordinary deadline.
However, if there are delays in submission, the six-month period starts from the actual transmission date.
