2024 Tax Season: Pay Attention to These Key Dates to Ensure You Don’t Miss Out on Your Refund
Don’t Miss Out on Your 730/2024 Tax Refund
Securing your 730/2024 tax refund as soon as possible is a top priority for Italian taxpayers, especially for employees and pensioners.
There are two key dates to keep in mind in this regard.
The tax declaration season is in full swing, although the submission of forms during the summer heat is likely to slow down, picking up pace again towards the end of August and into September.
However, choosing when to submit your declaration also impacts the timing of any potential refund, making it worth considering whether it’s better to submit your 730 form before the end of August.
It’s important to note that the rules regarding refund timelines also apply in September, and there are two key dates to watch out for in the coming months.
Key Dates for 730 Refunds
In the operational process involving Caf (Tax Assistance Centers) and professionals for tax return settlements, the first deadline is September 15th.
This is the final date by which intermediaries must submit the 730 forms filed by taxpayers between mid-July and the end of August.
By September 30th, the last declarations must be transmitted.
Meeting the September 15th deadline is crucial to receive your refund before December.
For those who submitted the 730 form between mid-July and the end of August, the transmission by Caf will take place by September 15th, resulting in:
- October refund for employees;
- November refund for pensioners.
For those submitting their tax returns in September, transmissions by intermediaries and Caf will occur on September 30, 2023.
In this case, the refund will be received:
- November for employees;
- December for pensioners.
730 Refunds and Regulations
The regulations governing 730 tax refund settlements dictate that any amounts owed are credited in the payslip of the following month not when the 730 form is submitted, but when the settlement statement is sent to the withholding agent.
For pensioners, however, there is a two-month wait period.
The same rules apply for those who file independently since, regardless, for declarations submitted by August 31st, the settlement statement is provided to the withholding agent by September 15th.
This makes it impossible to include any refund in the August payslip paid in September, postponing it to the following month’s pay.
