Bets €1.5 million on Lotto and wins €10.5 million

In the Philippines, the lottery winnings of several players are now under scrutiny by the Gaming and Entertainment Commission as suspicious.
Some players have alarmed the authorities.
Officials from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office revealed in a press conference that a player won 36 lottery wins over a six-month period for a total of 8.325 million Philippine pesos, the equivalent of 455,000 euros.
Another player bet 90 million pesos (1.5 million euros) in three different outlets and won the sum of 640 million pesos (10.5 million euros).
According to Senator Raffy Tulfo, who chairs the commission, this latest case closely resembles a money laundering operation.
“It's as if he had invested 90 million pesos,” said PCSO general director Melquiades Robles.
“There is nothing illegal about betting that much, except when there is a problem with that money.” At the moment it has not yet been clarified whether these winnings are due exclusively to the large amounts of money bet or whether they are the result of a sophisticated scam.
PCSO is the primary government agency for raising and providing funds for national health programs, medical care and services, and charities.
Among its sources of capital, in addition to the lottery, are prize competitions, scratch cards and horse racing.
Yes, it is a state-owned company in the Philippines.
The senator finally asked the PCSO to “provide information about the winners, who will be invited to an executive session in the next hearing”.
