The producer involved is Cascina Italia Spa, located in Spirano, Bergamo province.
According to reports from Ansa, several brands are included in this recall due to the potential risk of salmonella in the eggs.
Brands affected include Cascina Italia Smart (sold by Esselunga), Ovonovo Delizie dal Sole (available at Eurospin), Lactis (Parmalat), Latteria Chiuro, Gesco, Amadori, and Conad Del Campo.

The specific products involved are fresh eggs from free-range production.
The Ministry has advised consumers not to consume these eggs and to return them to the store where they were purchased instead of discarding them.

The Risks of Salmonella

The alarm for potential salmonella contamination has been rapidly communicated by the Ministry of Health due to the large number of affected brands and the associated health risks.

Salmonella is a bacterial agent responsible for gastrointestinal infections.
It thrives in the intestines of birds, mammals, reptiles, and even humans, where the conditions are favorable for its growth.
Foods considered at high risk include eggs, dairy, meat, artisan ice cream, fruits, vegetables, and all derivative products such as sauces and condiments.

Infection can lead to salmonellosis, which may cause symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches lasting up to a week without proper treatment.
Fortunately, salmonella does not survive at high temperatures or very acidic pH levels.
Consequently, it is strongly recommended to cook food thoroughly to minimize the risk of infection.
Well-cooked foods can reduce the likelihood of contracting salmonella to nearly zero.
