Pension Crisis: RAI’s Shocking Announcement of Nonexistent Increases

The Truth Behind Fake News Regarding Pension Increases

When a retired friend called me yesterday inquiring about the pension increase announced in June by the Restart program on Rai 3, I was skeptical.
As followers of pension news, we have long been fighting against fake news spread by those exploiting the desire of Italian pensioners to have more money on their checks for extra views.
Each month, the same increase is announced, supposedly due to adjustments for cost of living and income tax cuts.

However, as we have explained before and will delve into further in this article, this is not the case.
INPS (National Social Security Institute) has already adjusted all pensions, and there are no planned increases.
Despite this, Restart host Annalisa Bruchi announced an increase in pensions starting the following Monday during the May 31st episode, which can be found on RaiPlay.

Interested in this claim, I rewatched the episode, hoping my friend had misunderstood.
Yet, it was as stated from the beginning of the show.
“Good news for pensioners, starting Monday the checks will be heavier,” said Bruchi, initiating about 20 minutes of inaccuracies regarding pensions.
The alleged increases are attributed to adjustments and INPS reform, but as mentioned, they are simply not true.

The Misleading Reality on TV Show Announcements

During the show, this news was met with considerable excitement, as a segment informed pensioners of the imminent increase, with specific amounts being read out loud.
Some would receive 20, others 50, or even 80 euros, which undoubtedly generated enthusiasm among recipients, despite many pensions barely exceeding 1,000 euros.

These pensioners’ words should emphasize the importance of addressing pension matters with precision, avoiding misleading individuals who must carefully manage every euro to make ends meet.
Some express plans to buy shoes with the extra money, while others intend to pay bills.
It is essential to educate viewers that these claims are unsubstantiated.

Furthermore, instead of referring to pension slips, the show’s host repeatedly mentions payslips, highlighting the careless approach to the topic.
The lack of distinction is evident during a dialogue between Michele Mirabella and Bruchi, where confusion between gross and net income arises.

Even more concerning is the presence of Marco Osnato of Fratelli d’Italia, who missed the opportunity to refute the misinformation live on air.
Rosario Trefiletti, from Centro Consumatori Italia, was the only one to point out that any increases would be residuals from those recognized in January.

Confirmation from INPS: No Pension Increases in June

INPS confirms that there will be no pension increases in June.
Each month, the Institute publishes a guide detailing the contents of the pension slips, explaining any adjustments or deductions.
The June guide does not mention the increases proclaimed on the Rai Restart program.

INIEST.
Please refer to the guide for further details, as increases due to inflation were already applied in January, with possible delays until February.
Tax-related increases came into effect in March, with retroactive payments.
Therefore, any pending increases would only concern a minimal number of individuals, certainly not enough to base an entire program on.
