There are different names for it: school bonus, student bonus, or as we prefer to call it on Money.it, school book bonus.
In various regions of Italy, calls for applications are being posted these days (while others have already done so) to provide families with a useful contribution to cope with a significant expense, especially for those attending high schools.
According to Federconsumatori estimates, every year a family spends an average of about 500 euros on the purchase of books and other school materials, an amount to be considered per student.
Textbooks can therefore represent a prohibitive cost, conflicting with the protection of the right to education as stipulated by Article 34 of our Constitution.
This is why the State intervenes to provide everyone with the same tools to benefit from this right, recognizing contributions aimed at families with low income (quantified based on Isee) that partially or fully cover this expense.
As mentioned earlier, individual regions are in charge of managing the assignment of the school book bonus for 2024-2025.
However, not all regions have given the green light to the application process yet.
It should be noted that in most cases, the region only sets the terms for the assignment of the benefit, delegating to the resident municipality the task of collecting applications and providing the contribution.
It is never too early to prepare for the upcoming school year, so we recommend starting now to find out about the timing and requirements for requesting school book contributions.
Here are the regions that have already published the relevant calls for applications, those where the deadline for application has already passed, and those for which we are still waiting.
At the moment, only three regions have open terms for submitting a request for the voucher for the purchase of school books for middle and high schools.
Here is what each of these entails:
The Lazio region outlines that free or semi-free provision of textbooks falls within the type of interventions aimed at ensuring access to the right to education, especially for those with limited economic means.
The platform for submitting applications related to textbooks for the school year 2024/2025 is open from July 2, 2024, to September 16, 2024.
The amount varies depending on the municipality, ranging from 173 euros to 150 euros.
In Puglia, applications for the school book purchase contribution for the academic year 2024-2025 must be submitted by July 31.
Families with Isee below 11,000 euros can apply, with a higher threshold for families with at least 3 dependent children.
The contribution amount is defined by individual municipalities.
In Campania, municipalities are responsible for providing the school book bonus.
Two Isee brackets are identified, with different priority levels.
Applicants must have their Isee values within specific thresholds to be eligible for the benefit.
Several regions have not yet published information or have passed the deadline for requesting the book bonus.
The situation varies among regions, with some having set deadlines and others still pending the publication of calls for applications.
