Smart working, a new extension is coming. For whom and until when

Italy discovered smart working during the covid-19 pandemic.
In the most acute phases of the contagion, public and private companies understood that their employees could perform and work even from the comfort of home.
A practice already in other digitally advanced countries which in Italy struggled to take root especially due to the psychological limitations of those who thought that the employee did not perform enough if not monitored.
But things then changed and agile working has been widely used in recent years.
Once the emergency has passed, however, the time has come to return to the office, at least for a few days a week.
However, this is not for everyone because public and private employees considered fragile have been able to take advantage of smart working up to now.
The measure has expired several times in recent years but the government has always decided to extend it.
The last deadline is December 31st but apparently we are already moving to extend it until at least March 2024.
A postponement also due to the light of Covid infections which are growing in our country and it is therefore necessary to protect patients more fragile.
Smart working extension: here's for whom The right to smart working will be extended at least until next March for workers deemed fragile.
It is estimated that there are around one million public and private employees considered as such.
These are subjects who suffer from certain pathologies and who, by virtue of these, are considered particularly at risk.
Such as immunosuppressed, cancer patients being treated with immunosuppressive and myelosuppressive drugs, workers suffering from three or more pathologies including ischemic heart disease, arterial fibrillation, heart failure, stroke, diabetes mellitus, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic hepatitis and obesity.
The new intervention being studied by the executive aims to reduce the disparity in treatment between public and private sectors.
For example, for the private sector, in recent days the Senate Budget Committee gave the green light to an amendment which extends the right to flexible working in companies for parents of children under 14 and vulnerable children.
In the public sector, however, access to smart working for workers with young children must be provided for by the Piao, the work organization plans, of the individual administrations.
Therefore the extension does not provide for the expansion of the right to these public workers.
The vulnerable will benefit.
In the PA, this category of workers has the right to smart working without individual agreements with the manager in charge to access it.
In the private sector, an agreement from the company is required based on assessments by competent doctors who certify the pathology.
In short, we will try to standardize the right to smart working for vulnerable individuals both employed in the public administration and in the private sector.
The extension, which has been going on for several months, still entails organizational and economic problems for the PA.
In fact, additional resources are needed.
Let's think of the school where agile working for a teacher means the need to hire another teacher to replace the one employed, as a fallback, on remote activities.
At the moment the teaching staff who provide remote services are involved in support activities for the implementation of the three-year training offer plan.
