Who is J.D.
Vance?

Prior to his election to the Senate in 2022, venture capitalist J.D.
Vance was mainly known for his successful book “Hillbilly Elegy,” an autobiography depicting his childhood in a working-class white family.
The book was regarded as a key insight into Donald Trump’s 2016 triumph and the support he gained from the disenfranchised rural America.
Vance was endorsed by Trump as the vice-presidential candidate during the Republican Convention in Milwaukee.

After high school, he enlisted in the Marines, served in Iraq, and later attended the Ohio State University and Yale Law School.
He worked for conservative venture capitalist Peter Thiel before founding his own company.

The Anti-Neocon

Vance, often labeled as an extremist MAGA and ultra-conservative, has surprised many with his nuanced views.
He opposes the idea of the U.S.
being the global policeman and resists endless wars promoted by the military-industrial complex.
He advocates for a more restrained foreign policy and questions ongoing military support to Ukraine.

Views on Ukraine Aid

At the Munich Security Conference, Vance supported Trump’s “America First” foreign policy, urging European countries to take more responsibility for military defense so the U.S.
can focus on containing China.
He raised concerns about continuing military aid to Ukraine and proposed cooperation with Russian President Vladimir Putin to safeguard American interests.

Support for Israel

Vance is a staunch supporter of Israel and has criticized Biden’s approach to the Gaza conflict.
He believes the U.S.
should not interfere with Israel’s decisions and endorses the Israeli government’s actions.

Economic Stance

Notably, Vance appreciates some of the more left-leaning economic figures in the Biden administration.
He lauds efforts to tackle Silicon Valley monopolies and private equity abuses, acknowledging individuals like Lina Khan and Jared Bernstein for their work.
Vance has also worked on bipartisan legislative initiatives, collaborating with senators on bills related to healthcare costs, corporate tax laws, drug price transparency, and more.
