What the Hague decided about Israel, the key points of the ruling

The International Court of Justice, also known as the International Tribunal in The Hague, has issued its long-awaited ruling in South Africa's case against Israel for acts of genocide in Gaza.
The result is not a decisive sentence, but a step (however small) that recognizes Israel's genocidal attitudes, which it is now invited to avoid.
The provisional ruling from The Hague arrived on Friday 26th, with 15 of the 17 judges of the Court voting in favor of the emergency measures requested by South Africa.
The only exception, a serious one considering the numbers of people killed (mostly children) since the beginning of October, is the order to stop Israeli military action in Gaza.
So while the army continues to penetrate the territories of Gaza, between Tik Tok videos with dancing and laughing in military uniform and Israeli propaganda videos, the population continues to die in Gaza and the West Bank.

In more than 100 days, since Hamas attacked on October 7 (1,139 victims and 240 prisoners, many of whom were released), 26,000 people have been killed.
The numbers and the knowledge that many of these are minors, even newborns, have not provided a valid basis for requesting a ceasefire.
The South African foreign minister hoped the interim measures included in the ruling would include a ceasefire and said it would be impossible for Israel to implement the measures sought by the court without an end to the fighting.
Provisional measures: punishing incitement to genocide The sentence contains a clear warning to Israel, namely to implement all the measures in its power to prevent acts that could fall within the Genocide Convention (established precisely to prevent events such as the Holocaust were repeated and went unpunished).
On this basis, the Court ruled that it is Israel's duty to prevent and punish any incitement to genocide.
A fundamental measure, especially in light of the very recent statements by Israeli Minister Eliyahu, who has returned to talking about an atomic bomb on Gaza.
Interim measures: allow entry of humanitarian aid Just hours after an Israeli assault on Palestinian civilians queuing to take the little food entering Gaza, the Court ruled that Israel must guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip and basic services.

Judge Joan Donoghue, President of the ICJ, highlighted how the provisional ruling creates international legal obligations for Israel.
It is therefore a recognition of ongoing genocidal actions.
When affirmed in the ruling it found favor with the Gaza government (Hamas), which wrote in a note: “The [International] Court of Justice's decision is an important development that contributes to isolating Israel and exposing its crimes in Gaza.”
