Because there is a terrorism alarm again in Italy and Europe

There is a terrorism alarm in Italy and the rest of Europe.
After the attack on the Gambetta-Carnot school in Arras in France, where a former Russian-Chechen student aged just 20 entered the structure and stabbed a teacher to death while allegedly shouting "Allah Akbar", Europe has increased its attack alert level, intensifying controls.
The terrorism alert, in reality, has intensified since the explosion of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, but in the hours following the Hamas attack on Israel, the strengthening of sensitive objectives in Italy began.
The risk, explained Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during a visit to the Synagogue of Rome, is that of an attempt at emulation.
Faced with such a picture, it is natural to worry and wonder whether there is a concrete terrorism risk for Italy.
There is a possibility of danger, but as the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, explained, Italian intelligence guarantees a "reliable prevention system".
Certainly – continues the minister – difficult months lie ahead for Italy and the rest of Europe.
But what do the war in Ukraine and Palestine have to do with the increased risk of terrorist attacks in Europe? Let us try to clear up any doubts.
Below is everything you need to know about it.

The terrorism alarm has led to a strengthening of controls throughout Europe, especially after what happened in France on 13 and 14 October.
On October 13, a former Russian-Chechen student broke into his old high school in Arras and stabbed the teacher Dominique Bernard to death and injured two other people, while reportedly shouting – according to reconstructions – "Allah Akbar".
The perpetrator of the attack was already known to the French police forces who were monitoring him and had classified him as "S", i.e.
a person "at risk of radicalisation".
The same day there was another attempted terrorist attack in Paris.
The very young attacker also had another school in his sights, the Condorcet high school in Limay, but after leaving a prayer center he was immediately stopped by the police.
Then, on October 14, three bomb alerts were triggered in two sensitive points in the French capital: the Louvre museum, Versailles and the Gare de Lyon station in Paris.
The authorities believed that the security of the buildings had been compromised: a bomb threat had been received at the Louvre, while a bomb had been reported at Versailles and the station.
France has therefore activated the highest level of "attack emergency" alert, which allows an exceptional mobilization of resources – 7,000 soldiers – throughout France "until further notice".

The terrorism alert was triggered, in fact, starting from February 2022 with the start of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, paying maximum attention to those who went to fight in Ukraine and the Russian separatist republics, then trying to return to Europe.
The alert then continued with the exceptional wave of migrant landings.
Intelligence immediately worked by monitoring both the reception centers and the immigrants who had been present on Italian and European soil for a long time, identifying those at risk of radicalisation.
And with the war in Palestine and Israel, migratory flows will increase.
Finally, in the hours immediately following the Hamas raid – not to be confused with Palestine and the Palestinians – new monitoring began on the network through which Islamic extremism moves.

The terrorism alarm was also triggered in Italy and this is why it immediately planned a strengthening of sensitive objectives in Italy: in the capital alone there are over 4,000 garrisons monitored.
But is Italy really at risk? Being a European country of first landing for migratory flows, the answer is a yes, at least according to Diego Parente, central director of the prevention police and president of the Casa (Committee for strategic anti-terrorism analysis), who underlined that there is risk that irregular migratory flows could "infiltrate individuals who are in various ways dangerous to security".
Since the Hamas attack, Italy immediately activated intervention plans for emergency management.
Attention has increased in sensitive points such as railway stations, ports, airports, but also symbolic Jewish places and cultural places.
Cross-checks were then activated on the lists of passengers in transit in Italy.
Not only.
At the borders, the authorities have increased the number of checks, just as attention has also increased on active cells in Italian prisons.
Piantedosi reassured citizens, saying that he trusted the Italian Intelligence system, thanks to which "we have almost always intercepted these phenomena".
The Intelligence, in fact, is already working to monitor the situation and the 146 Foreign fighters are under attention.
In fact, the risks of extremist infiltration can come from so-called fighters returning from nearby theaters of war such as Syria, Libya or the separatist republics of Donbass and now from Israel and Palestine.
Part of the research then focuses on Hamas and its network.
Our financial intelligence, in fact, monitors a series of money transfers from Italy to the West Bank as potentially at risk, just as investigations continue into potential sleeper cells linked to Islamic terrorism: usually these are "lone wolves", in contact via the network with terrorist associations in Syria.
However, it is good to reassure readers once again, as Repubblica reminds us, the prevention system in Italy has always worked so much so that "it has not recorded any terrorist attacks in recent years".
