Rai license fee and deadline of 30 April to not pay or to do so with F24
Rai license fee, 30 April is the final date for two important obligations: the request for exemption for those over 75 and the final deadline for payment with F24.
The television subscription, as the Rai license fee is often called, is perhaps the most hated tax by Italians who can't wait to reach the age at which it is no longer due.
How does the age exemption work, how is it requested and by when? The date of April 30th is fundamental for this request and we will see exactly why in this article.
Obligation to pay the Rai license fee Owning a television set is the prerequisite for paying the Rai license fee which, this year, goes from 90 to 70 euros.
It is a tax due only once a year and only once per family and even if its amount is not particularly high, Italians hate paying it because they do not understand the reason behind it.
Since 2016 the Rai license fee, which was previously paid via payment slips, has been included in the electricity bill and is paid automatically through the presumption of possession of the television set in the case of being the owner of a domestic electricity supply.
The exemptions are provided, in any case, for those over 75 years of age who have an annual income, added to that of their spouse, which does not exceed 8,000 euros per year (there must be no other cohabitants with their own income with the exclusion of possible carer).

Until what age do you pay the Rai license fee? Citizens who have reached the age of 75 and have their own income plus that of their spouse of less than 8,000 euros can submit a substitute declaration to be exempt from paying the Rai license fee.
The exemption must be requested on the date of your 75th birthday and the exemption is valid for the entire year if your 75th birthday is by 31 January 2024, and for only the second quarter if you reach 75 years of age.
from 1 February to 31 July 2024.
For those who turn 75 after 31 July 2024 the exemption is valid for 2025.
Please note that the application for exemption valid for the whole year must be submitted by 30 April 2024.
For for the exemption for the second quarter, however, the request must be submitted by 31 July.
The other deadline of 30 April In some cases the Rai license fee is not credited in the electricity bill and payment must be made with the F24 form.
This is the case in which no member of the family who is required to pay the fee is the owner of the electricity contract, in this case the payment takes place via form F24 in a single solution by 31 January 2024, in two payments half-yearly (31 January and 31 July) or in four monthly instalments.
For those who have chosen payment in four installments, April 30th represents the deadline for the second installment to be paid with the F24 form.
