What is the “dark mode” on WhatsApp for? How to activate it on your phone

WhatsApp: The Most Popular Messaging App in the World

WhatsApp is the most widely used messaging app in the world, with an estimated 2 billion users sending messages and chatting through the application every day.
In comparison, competitors like the Chinese app WeChat have 1.336 billion users, Messenger has 979 million, and Telegram has 800 million users.

This year, WhatsApp celebrated its 15th anniversary.
It all began on February 24, 2009, when two former Yahoo employees created the famous app.

WhatsApp’s Journey and Acquisition by Meta

In 2014, WhatsApp made a groundbreaking move by being acquired by Meta (formerly Facebook) for $19 billion.
Since then, WhatsApp has become part of Mark Zuckerberg’s galaxy, alongside Facebook and Instagram.
Over the years, the app has continuously updated and introduced new features to stay current, user-friendly, and efficient.

WhatsApp’s Iconic Green Color

One of the features that has always distinguished WhatsApp is its classic green color.
Despite this, WhatsApp has never allowed users to change the color of the app.
However, there is now a way to do it.
Let’s see how.

How to Activate WhatsApp’s Purple Mode

Although the classic green color has long been associated with the famous messaging app, there is a way to switch to a purple color theme.
This change is not officially supported or offered by Meta.
To change the app’s color, users need to install a third-party app.

An alternative option is to use Nova Launcher, which allows you to change the color without compromising security and privacy.
Nova Launcher can be found on the Play Store for Android devices.
The first step is to find and install the Nova Launcher app on your phone.

Next, customize the aesthetics of your mobile device and set it as the default.
Then, search for a purple WhatsApp logo image, preferably in PNG format without a background, on Google.

Select the WhatsApp logo, press and click on ‘edit.’ Upload the downloaded image and click ‘done.’ This process allows you to personalize the WhatsApp application by changing the app’s image.
It is a completely safe procedure with no risks involved.

Currently, this operation is only available for Android devices, and iOS devices do not support it.
Regarding the change of the main theme color, users will have to wait, although it is being tested in beta versions.

From the classic combination of white, black, and green, users will be able to switch to shades like blue, purple, or pink.
This feature would be included under the new ‘appearance’ section that will be present in the settings.
This will make it very easy and quick to customize the WhatsApp app according to personal preferences.
We will see if and when this feature will be introduced.
WhatsApp occasionally updates its application, with the most recent one being just a few months ago.
