The Labour Party has emerged victorious but not overwhelmingly in the UK elections held on Thursday, July 4th, garnering a clear majority after 14 years since Gordon Brown’s era.
The newly elected Prime Minister of the United Kingdom will be Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party, who will succeed the Conservative Rushi Sunak.
The Tories performed poorly, benefiting the Brexit Party of Nigel Farage and the Liberal Democrats.
Out of 650 seats, the Labour Party has secured 403, while the Conservatives have 111 and the Liberal Democrats 69.
Reform UK has obtained 4 seats, following the purely majority-based electoral system where the candidate with the most votes in each constituency wins.
The UK elections kicked off on July 4th from 8 am to 11 pm (Italian time).

The voter turnout stood at 59.7%.

In order to secure a majority in the House of Commons, a party must achieve at least 326 seats out of the total 650.
Nearly 50 million voters participated in the Commons’ renewal elections.
The party leader or coalition winning the majority automatically becomes the Prime Minister.
The current Conservative Prime Minister Rushi Sunak intends to continue his tenure, while Labour presents Keir Starmer as their candidate.
Other candidates include John Swinney for the Scottish National Party and Ed Davey for the Liberal Democrats.
The electoral law in the UK follows the “first-past-the-post” system, where winning candidates in each of the 650 constituencies secure a seat in the House of Commons.
