“INL to Hire 750 Labor Inspectors: What You Need to Know”

New Recruitment Opportunities at the National Labor Inspectorate

The National Labor Inspectorate has recently announced the upcoming launch of a new recruitment campaign by the end of the year.
As per the new hiring plans, nearly 1,000 new members will be added to the workforce.
The recruitment procedures for the position of labor inspector will soon be released for aspiring candidates.

The job openings will target graduates with a bachelor’s degree.
It is not yet confirmed if there will be a preferred field of study for applicants.

In this new phase of recruitment, by the end of 2024, there will be 750 open positions in addition to the current 850 labor inspectors.

Insights into the Job Competition at INL

The National Labor Inspectorate, led by Director Paolo Pennesi, has unveiled plans for a new recruitment drive in 2024.
The examination will test candidates on information and English language skills, with a major focus on expertise in occupational health and safety.

Pennesi stated, “Currently, we have a team of 850 technical labor inspectors.
Initially, there were 200 vacancies, and we filled 650 positions.
With the recent legislation introducing a demerit points system, we will hire an additional 750 inspectors.” He added, “Five hundred positions remained vacant from the previous competition, and we are adding another 250.
We hope to launch the competition soon and conduct the exams in June-July, or by September at the latest.
With these additional 750 inspectors, we will reach a total of about 1,500.”

The forthcoming competition by 2024 aims to recruit an additional 750 labor inspectors.
While the specific criteria have not been disclosed yet, it is assumed that they will not differ significantly from those outlined in the 2022 competition.

Expectations for the Competition and Test Subjects

In the absence of an official announcement, expectations can be based on the previous competition.
Two types of tests are typically conducted: a selective test based on codes and a review of qualifications.

The selective test is a written exam comprising 40 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 60 minutes, including:

  • 25 specialized subject quizzes + English and computer skills
  • 8 logic quizzes
  • 7 situational quizzes
  • Regarding subjects, the competition may cover topics from the 2022 edition.
    Until the competition details are released, the subjects are likely to remain consistent, allowing candidates to prepare accordingly.

    The subjects may include:

    • Machinery and plants
    • Construction science
    • Regulations on occupational health and safety (Legislative Decree 81/2008)
    • Directive 2006/42/EC on machinery
    • Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on personal protective equipment
    • Lifts and steam generators regulations
    • Ionizing radiation regulations
    • Chemistry basics
    • Labor law fundamentals
    • English language proficiency
    • Computer applications and common software usage
