iPhone 16 Launch Next Week as Apple Halts Production of Certain Models

iPhone 16 Launch: Anticipated Innovations and Discontinuations

Next week marks the arrival of the much-anticipated iPhone 16, set to be unveiled tomorrow, Monday, September 9, 2024.
Alongside this cutting-edge smartphone, tech enthusiasts can expect to see even more modern and innovative versions of Apple’s favorite devices, including the AirPods and Apple Watch.
Consequently, the production of older models such as these will soon be halted, especially since they will likely be sold at significantly lower prices.

Once the new devices hit the market, particularly the iPhone, Apple will cease production of previous models, which will still be available until stocks last.
Although Apple has not officially announced the withdrawal of these products, they will eventually stop receiving updates.
This gap not only limits user experience but also compromises smartphone security.
Generally, security updates are extended to allow users to utilize the devices at least throughout their expected lifespan.

Upcoming Apple Production Stops

iPhones Facing Discontinuation

With the launch of the iPhone 16, it is reasonable to anticipate that Apple will halt production of the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, approximately a year after their rollout, mirroring past trends.
The iPhone 14 Plus may also be discontinued since it was designed as an entry-level product that no longer makes sense to market, while the iPhone 14 will likely remain available for some time.

Furthermore, we should prepare to bid farewell to the oldest phone still offered by Apple, the iPhone 13.
Nearly three years post-launch, it’s expected that the iPhone 14 will inherit the title of the most outdated device.
Given the numerous price fluctuations over the years, the iPhone 13 is now easily found at discounts, sometimes at half its original price.

Apple Watch Generational Shift

This autumn, a new generation of the Apple Watch is expected, a flagship product for the company that is set to bring various enhancements.
For Series 10, an overall improvement in features is anticipated, including a larger display and a lighter casing, akin to the latest iPhone models.

Rumors suggest that Apple might also release an update for the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and introduce a revamped SE 3 that is more budget-friendly with a plastic casing, while simultaneously ceasing production of Series 9, Ultra, and SE 2.

AirPods Production Changes

As mentioned, new AirPods are also on the horizon, which could signal the end of older models’ production.
Despite the release of AirPods 3 in 2021, Apple has continued the production of AirPods 2, which now seem likely to vanish from the lineup.

Moreover, with AirPods 4’s launch, two differentiated models are anticipated: a mid-range and a more economical version.
This will enable Apple to cater to varying user needs while renewing its product roster, making it plausible that AirPods 3 will also face discontinuation.

iPad Model Updates and Stops

In October, the more affordable iPads, specifically the Mini 6 and the 10-inch model, are anticipated to receive updates.
However, with the arrival of the 11th generation iPad, Apple is not expected to prolong the production of the previous series, which is currently priced at approximately 350 euros, deemed unsustainable.

For this transition, a bit more time is necessary as we do not expect immediate changes for the Mini and Pro series, especially considering that the new iPad Pro was unveiled last May in two versions.
