Assumptions from first-tier GPS for support in the next two school years are now a certainty, although reaching the role is not easy for those who do not win the school competition.
But how can one obtain the role through first-tier GPS hires for support?
The Ministry of Education and Merit has published ministerial decree no.
111 of June 6, 2024, which regulates the procedures for hiring from the first-tier GPS for support positions, confirming a practice of recent years post-pandemic and also the fast mini call.
The mini fast call provides the last hope for a role for those who will not be able to fill the vacancies remaining in the province of registration for first-tier support GPS.
Let’s see then who obtains the role from the first-tier support GPS and how it works.
To obtain the role from the first-tier support GPS, teachers must receive a proposal for a fixed-term contract in the province of registration in the Provincial Lists of Substitute Teachers.
It is not enough to obtain a fixed-term contract, therefore an annual substitute, because the position to be taken must be one of those intended for permanent hires; in fact, the teacher undergoes the probation year and then obtains the position once the final exam is passed.
The first-tier GPS support hires aimed at securing a role serve to cover the vacant and available positions that remain after the placements from Gae and from the merit rankings of the competitions and always within the limits of the hiring contingent authorized by the ministry.
Once registered in the first-tier GPS support (the procedure for new entries and score updating ends at 11:59 pm on June 24), interested teachers must submit their application electronically according to ministerial guidelines.
In the province of registration in the Lists, the teacher placed in the first tier for support must indicate preferences, therefore the locations of interest (this procedure should take place in the month of July).
Failure to submit the application via “Polis-Online Applications”, and the expression of preferences, is equivalent to waiving both a one-year substitute and the role.
In case of non-recruitment in the province of registration, the candidate can participate in the mini fast call procedure for the vacant positions remaining in another province other than the one of registration in GPS.
The procedure to obtain an annual assignment aimed at a role through the mini fast call lasts 48 hours.
At the end of the probation year, passed with a positive evaluation, by July 15 of the reference school year, teachers must conduct a simulated lesson in front of an Evaluation Committee that must express an opinion on the suitability of the teacher aspiring to the role.
In the event of a positive outcome of the probation year and the simulated lesson, the teacher is hired with a permanent contract with legal effect from the start date of the service with a fixed-term contract.
Those who obtain the role thanks to the hires from the first-tier GPS support are those who have entered the substitute lists having obtained the specialization at the end of the Tfa course.
Those who have obtained the specialization of the VIII cycle of the Tfa support can also aspire to the role, having just enrolled in the first tier of the GPS.
However, those who will obtain the specialization by June 30, 2025, and have been included in the additional lists of the GPS can also aspire to the role in support in the next school year.
The procedure renewed by the ministry for permanent hires from the first-tier support GPS is valid for two school years and until December 31, 2025.
Those included in GPS with a reservation are excluded from the procedure.
