How to use Messenger without Facebook

From March 6, 2024, Messenger can be used without a Facebook account.
In a few days, all users in the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland will finally be able to use Messenger without having an account on Meta.
In fact, anyone who actively uses Meta's Messenger service may have recently come across an automatic pop-up window inviting users to decide whether they wish to disconnect their Messenger account from their Facebook account, in accordance with new EU legislation.
The European Union's Digital Markets Act (DMA) aims to promote competition and innovation in digital markets.
In this case, the DMA asked Meta to make a Facebook account optional to use Messenger.
Indeed, although the messaging service has been available for some time so far as a desktop application, smartphone and standalone web page, you always need a Facebook account to use them.
From March 6, however, it will no longer be necessary, but how to use Messenger without Facebook and what will change? Here's everything you need to know.

So let's see the essential steps to use Messenger without Facebook.
Open the Messenger app on your smartphone; click the Menu icon (made up of three horizontal lines) at the top left; select the gear-shaped Settings icon at the top right; select Privacy and security; in the Permissions section simply select Messenger with Facebook; tap Manage your Messenger experience; select Create a new Messenger account, following the settings step by step.
If someone wants to use Messenger without a Facebook account, then simply delete their social media account.
From March 6, users will be able to register for the chat service without a Meta account, but this is only possible on Android or iOS.
On tablets and computers it will not be possible to register a new account without Facebook.
Messenger without Facebook account: here's what will change But what will change once the Facebook account is disconnected within Messenger? The answer is once again Meta.
Mark Zuckerberg's company explained that after logging out, the chats associated with your existing Meta account will remain available on Facebook.
However, the company has advised its customers to set up secure storage to ensure that messages remain in the cloud and are not lost with access to message history.
But the news doesn't end here.
In the new Messenger, without a Facebook account, your message histories and previous conversations will not be available, but you will be able to start new conversations.
On the Meta side, however, your Facebook account will not undergo changes, remaining the same as before, as will your chats and account information.
With the new Messanger account without Facebook, users will be able to access key Messanger features, such as: private messaging; voice calls; video; Social and story chats, however, cannot be used, since Messenger group chat does not support any social functions provided by Facebook.
Still.
Contacts from the original Facebook account will not transfer to the new Messenger account without Facebook.
However, you can reload contacts to Messenger from your smartphone or manually search for contacts by name or username.
Security features, however, will be retained, so you can disable contacts and continue reporting conversations or contacts.
