Should we hope for a Trump victory to avoid a third world war?
Only Donald Trump can avoid a third world war.
It may seem absurd, but listening to the latest statements by Lloyd Austin – current number one in the Pentagon -, only a change in the White House on November 5th on the occasion of the 2024 US elections could avoid a direct conflict between Russia and NATO, therefore concerning also Italy.
“If you are a Baltic country, you are very worried if you will be next: they know Putin, they know what he is capable of – Austin declared in his speech to the US House of Representatives -.
And frankly, if Ukraine falls I really believe that NATO will go to war with Russia.” The Pentagon chief then added: “We know that if Putin is successful he will not stop.
He will continue to be more aggressive in the region.
And other leaders around the world, other autocrats will be looking at this.
And they will be encouraged by the fact that this happened without us being able to sustain a democratic state." For the USA, in the event of a military success by Russia on Ukraine, NATO would have no choice but to fight against Moscow's troops in what would in effect be a third world war.
Considering the numerical and military superiority of the Russian Army compared to the stoic Kiev troops, a third world war would only be a matter of time with Europe already preparing for this eventuality given the general arms race.

In recent days in the Old Continent there has been renewed talk of a possible third world war after the words of Emmanuel Macron, with the French president not ruling out the possibility of sending troops to support Ukraine in the conflict with Russia.
All this because Moscow "cannot win the war", given that Russian troops currently occupy 20% of Ukrainian territory and are continuing to advance thanks to the fact that Kiev no longer has money, weapons and above all is short of new soldiers to be sent to the front.
Thus Austin and Macron may have evoked the specter of a third world war to justify new billions and billions of dollars to be allocated to Ukraine in terms of weapons and financial aid, but all this may not be enough by virtue of the fact that Zelensky's army needs of at least another 500,000 soldiers who are currently missing.
A victory for Russia like this would seem to be only a matter of time – even years -, with a direct conflict between Moscow and NATO which would consequently be almost inevitable according to the words of the Pentagon chief.
However, if Donald Trump were to win the presidential elections in November, as overseas polls currently seem to predict, everything could change given that the tycoon has repeatedly expressed his opposition to indefinite support for Ukraine in this war.
Paradoxically, the most right-wing president in American history would be the only possibility to avoid a third world war, with the USA which, with Trump back in the White House, would lose interest in Ukraine and instead vigorously resume the tariff battle with China.
However, this warlike rhetoric in the West does not seem to bode well, as if the chancelleries had already decided to abandon all diplomatic ambitions with Putin, preparing for a potentially even nuclear war.
