The Media Bubble Surrounding the Invisible Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris: The Chosen One?

After pushing President Joe Biden into retreat, the Democratic Party elites in the USA – with the noteworthy exception of Barack Obama – and the media close to the Democrats have crowned Vice President Kamala Harris.
Pollsters are already talking about an initial lead over Donald Trump, and much of Hollywood has already sided with her.
Once the frontrunner, Trump seems to be at a disadvantage compared to the Vice President, who meanwhile has garnered the support of a significant number of delegates to secure the nomination at the August Democratic Convention.
However, beyond the current hype and media bubble, Kamala Harris remains perhaps the Democrats’ safest option to avoid internal chaos, but far from a strong and winning candidacy.

Why Kamala Harris Remains Weak

While the European establishment publicly praises Kamala Harris, privately the tone is quite different.
Isabel Schnabel, a member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB), privately criticized Kamala Harris as “invisible” and predicted her inevitable defeat.
“The Democratic Party’s selection process is a failure,” Schnabel stated in comments reported by Politico.
“They should have built up another candidate alongside Kamala Harris from the start.
She will never win an election; I mean, it’s hopeless.” Schnabel added a sharp note: “I don’t even know her because she has been so invisible.” “They don’t say it out loud,” the outlet reports, “but the crucial question for many EU officials is not how Harris would be in the White House, but whether she has what it takes to get there by beating Trump.”

A Failing Vice Presidency

The truth is that Kamala Harris has not made a significant impact during her vice presidency years.
Some might argue that, fundamentally, the Vice President in the United States lacks significant powers and influence.
This hasn’t always been the case; for instance, Dick Cheney was an extremely influential figure within George W.
Bush’s administration, perhaps at times even more so than the President himself.
For Kamala Harris, things have not unfolded in a similar manner: according to polls, the Vice President was – prior to Joe Biden’s announcement – even more unpopular than the President.
“Her polls – as highlighted by The New York Times on June 28th – have stubbornly remained low, in line with Biden’s.
And up until last year, some Democrats privately worried that she was a liability for the campaign.”

During her tenure, Politico published an investigation into the “toxic” work environment surrounding her office, with various complaints from officials and former officials.
Politically, President Joe Biden handed her the management of migration flows in 2021, a dossier in which Kamala Harris failed on all fronts.
Today, as noted by Free Press, no media outlet speaks of the nearly 250,000 illegal migrants arrested at the border in December 2023, a historic record.
The only notable outcome achieved during her tenure is a negative record.
