Biden’s Retreat: Who Will Be the Democratic Candidate in the 2024 US Elections

Joe Biden Considers Withdrawing from 2024 Elections

Recent news reports suggest that President Joe Biden is considering the possibility of withdrawing from the 2024 US elections.
This decision comes after testing positive for Covid-19, which has forced him to take a few days off to recover.
The increasing number of cases in the US and Italy, coupled with his current health condition, have prompted him to contemplate his next steps.

In an interview with BET News, President Biden mentioned that he would entertain the idea of stepping back “if any medical condition emerged, if someone, if the doctors came to me and said, you have this and that problem.” Despite his past strong rebuttals against stepping down, especially following a rocky debate with Donald Trump and a series of gaffes, the President seems to be reevaluating his position.

As of now, polls for the 2024 US elections heavily favor Trump, who has seen a surge in popularity after narrowly escaping an assassination attempt during a rally in Butler.
The President’s Covid-induced pause in campaigning, just days before his second debate with Trump, has sparked rumors of a potential withdrawal from the race.

Speculation and Contingency Plans

According to an anonymous advisor as reported by CNN, there seems to be a shift in President Biden’s perspective, from doubting Kamala Harris’s chances to considering her as a viable alternative.
If health concerns prevent Biden from running, Kamala Harris could emerge as the Democratic candidate against Donald Trump.

With pressure mounting on President Biden, even influential figures like Senator Adam Schiff have publicly called for his withdrawal from the presidential race.
Should Biden choose to step aside, the Democratic Party could select a new candidate before the August convention.

In this scenario, possible replacements could include Vice President Kamala Harris, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
The path to nominate a new candidate seems clear, with the party delegates likely to follow a supportive endorsement from Biden towards Harris.

As the discussions around Harris’s potential to challenge Trump intensify, there is a growing sense that President Biden may pave the way for his vice president to take the lead.
In such a scenario, a Biden endorsement could result in Harris becoming the official Democratic nominee for the 2024 US elections, shaping the future of the party’s candidacy.
The stage is set; all that remains is a possible step back from sleepy Joe.
