The upcoming 2024 European elections will take place from June 6 to June 9.
In Italy, voting is scheduled for Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9.
The polling stations will open on Saturday from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM and on Sunday from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
Vote counting will begin across all EU member states starting at 11:00 PM on Sunday.
In the 2024 European elections, a total of 705 MEPs will be elected, with seats allocated based on each member state’s population.
Following Brexit, the number of seats was reduced from 751 to 705.
Italy will elect 73 MEPs, while countries like Germany (96) and France (79) will have more representatives in the European Parliament.
Each country will elect its MEPs according to its own electoral law.
In Italy, the electoral system is pure proportional representation, divided into five constituencies with a 4% national threshold for party lists.
Italian citizens aged 18 and above can vote in the European elections, while in some countries like Germany and Belgium, the voting age is 16.
Voters must present their electoral card and a valid ID at their designated polling station.
For the first time, out-of-town students can vote where they study, and out-of-town workers can vote in their municipality of residence.
Italy uses a preferential voting system, allowing voters to indicate up to three preferences for candidates of the opposite sex within the same party list.
Italy will be divided into five constituencies, each electing a specific number of MEPs.
Parties must submit their candidate lists by May 1st.
Some parties need to collect signatures to participate, while others are exempt.
