Action, European Elections 2024: Candidates, Parties and Electoral Polls

Azione aims to reach the 4% threshold in the 2024 European elections

Azione’s goal in the upcoming 2024 European elections is to reach the 4% threshold.
The voting in Italy will take place on Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9, concurrently with the first round of local elections and the regional elections in Piedmont.

Alliances and Candidates

For these European elections, Azione has formed alliances with several other parties and movements, including Nos, Per – Popolari Europeisti Riformatori, Partito Repubblicano Italiano, Movimento Repubblicani Europei, Socialista Liberale, Democrazia Liberale, Piattaforma Civica Popolare Riformatrice, and Team K.
Despite not being part of Stati Uniti d’Europa, Carlo Calenda remains confident in overcoming the 4% national threshold.

The lists of candidates for Azione in the European elections are taking shape, with prominent names such as former mayor of Parma Federico Pizzarotti and former regional councilor in Lazio Alessio D’Amato leading the way.

Election Law and Candidates

Unlike national elections, European elections in Italy do not allow for coalitions.
The 73 MEPs that Italy will elect will be proportionally distributed among parties that manage to exceed the 4% threshold nationally.
The country is divided into five constituencies (North-West, North-East, Center, South, and Islands), with the Partito Democratico presenting a list for each.
Voters can express up to three preferences, with the most voted candidates securing seats.

It is estimated that each aspiring MEP might spend between 50,000 and 200,000 euros during the electoral campaign, making it a challenging endeavor to secure a seat in the European Parliament.

Official Candidates and Lists

Several candidates have already been confirmed by Azione for the upcoming European elections, including ex-5 Star Movement members Federico Pizzarotti and Sonia Alfano, Alessio D’Amato, General Vincenzo Camporini, and Ukrainian journalist Nataliya Kudryk.

Lists of Azione’s candidates for the European elections have been revealed for the five constituencies: North-West, North-East, Center, South, and Islands.

Amidst numerous recent polls in Italy, Azione seems to hover around the 4% threshold.
Various surveys indicate different percentages for Azione, ranging from 3% to 4%, with potential for four MEPs if the threshold is surpassed.
