Gela 2024 administrative elections: date, candidates and polls

Gela 2024 administrative elections: the engines are warming up in view of the municipal elections which could be merged as regards the first round of the European elections and the regional ones in Piedmont, even if in the name of autonomy in Sicily they could vote on a different date.
In the 2024 administrative elections, Lucio Greco, the current mayor of Gela, could be back in the field but he would remain practically alone after the abandonment of a good part of the parties and lists that supported his council.
However, there would seem to be no shortage of possible candidates in Gela: Terenziano Di Stefano for Agorà, Filippo Franzone for Moto Civico, Rosario Caci for Mpa and Miguel Donegani for Progressisti e Renovatori.
However, the situation within the center-right remains to be deciphered.

Even if an official communication from the Region has not yet arrived, in 2024 the hypothesis of unification remains in the field: in this case the first round of the administrative elections in Gela would be held on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June.
As per the regulations, the possible run-off would be held two weeks later but it remains to be seen whether the Region will opt for double voting days as recently done.
The electoral law The electoral law of administrative elections in Italy is majority-based as regards the election of the mayor, while the distribution of councilors takes place in a proportional manner.
Since Gela is a municipality with more than 15,000 inhabitants, if no candidate in the first round obtains 40% of the valid votes then a run-off will be held between the two most voted.
If there is a perfect head-to-head tie, the oldest candidate will be elected mayor.
To guarantee the formation of a solid majority and consequently substantial governability, the lists linked to the winning mayoral candidate will be allocated 60% of the seats; the remaining seats on the Council will then be assigned to the other lists in a proportional manner through the "D'Hondt method".
At the division of seats, a total of 24 councilors excluding the mayor will be elected.
All lists and groups of lists of candidates that have exceeded the threshold of 3% of valid votes will be admitted.
As regards the voting methods, in municipalities with more than 15,000 inhabitants, split voting is permitted, with the voter being able to express up to two preferences while maintaining gender equality (one man and one woman).

In view of the 2024 elections, the latest rumors speak of Lucio Greco ready to run in search of a second mandate, but the coalition supporting him has been falling apart for some time: the mayor, however, seems to be intent on continuing on his path.
The former deputy mayor Terenziano Di Stefano, on the other hand, is very promising and, after having obtained the green light from the Agora, could soon receive the support of the Democratic Party as well.
However, Filippo Franzone who should be the mayoral candidate of Moto Civico will not be in the coalition, while Miguel Donegani has been in the field for the Progressives and Renovators for some time.
In the centre-right, Mpa is tempted to run alone with Rosario Caci, with the other parties apparently considering other profiles: the lawyer Tommaso Vespo has been talked about for some time, but a new run by Giuseppe Spata cannot be ruled out.
