Carpi 2024 Local Elections: Date, Candidates, Lists, and Polls

Elections in Carpi 2024: a Glimpse into the Upcoming Administrative Elections

The campaign for the upcoming administrative elections in Carpi is gaining momentum, as the elections will be merged with the European elections, just like five years ago, for an “election day” experience.

Alberto Bellelli, the current Mayor of Carpi from the Democratic Party, will not be running for re-election in 2024, having reached the end of his second consecutive term.

The Candidates and Electoral Process

In the center-left coalition, the candidate for mayor will be selected through primaries.
Riccardo Righi, the current Assessor, emerged victorious over the long-standing figure, Giovanni Taurasi.

On the other hand, Annalisa Arletti will be the mayoral candidate for the center-right coalition, completing the roster of four candidates in the Carpi elections along with Davide Verri for the People’s Force and the independent candidate Monica Medici.

Date and Voting Schedule

The administrative elections in Carpi 2024, along with the first round, are scheduled to coincide with the European elections.
The chosen dates are Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9.

Voting will take place from 3 pm to 11 pm on Saturday, June 8, and from 7 am to 11 pm on Sunday, June 9.
The counting of votes will prioritize the European elections.

If a runoff is necessary, it will be held on Sunday, June 23, from 7 am to 11 pm, and on Monday, June 24, from 7 am to 3 pm.

The Electoral Law

The electoral law for the administrative elections in Italy follows a majority system for the mayor’s election and a proportional allocation of councilors.

If no candidate secures an absolute majority in the first round in Carpi, a runoff between the top two candidates will be conducted.
In the event of a tie, the older candidate will be elected mayor.

To ensure a solid majority and governance, the winning candidate’s coalition will be allocated 60% of the council seats, with the remaining seats distributed proportionally among other lists using the D’Hondt method.

A total of 24 councilors will be elected in Carpi, excluding the mayor, and all lists or coalitions that surpass the 3% threshold of valid votes will be eligible.

Candidates and Affiliated Lists

Four candidates will compete in the 2024 Carpi administrative elections, each supported by different lists:

  • Annalisa Arletti: Brothers of Italy, Lega and Forza Italia, Carpi Protagonist
  • Monica Medici: Carpifutura, Civic Movement for Carpi
  • Riccardo Righi: Democratic Party, AVS, and several other local coalitions
  • Davide Verri: People’s Force

Carpi has historically been a stronghold of the left, with the Communist Party and then the Democratic Party – previously known as Pds and Ds – governing the city since the post-war period.

In the upcoming elections, the Democratic Party’s candidate, Riccardo Righi, secured victory in the primaries with 61% of the votes.
On the other side, Annalisa Arletti represents the center-right, Davide Verri stands for the People’s Force, and Monica Medici leads three civic lists.
It will be an interesting electoral contest to watch in Carpi.
