Once again, technology has come to the rescue in the case of a theft.
This time, however, we’re not talking about a theft of just a few thousand dollars, but rather the theft of a Ferrari valued at $575,000 found thanks to a pair of AirPods.
This extraordinary event occurred in Waterbury, Connecticut, USA.
On September 16, a wealthy car owner reported the theft of his $575,000 Ferrari.
The thief successfully forced the car and made a quick getaway, leaving no immediate trace.
Fortunately, the police started an investigation and were able to locate the stolen vehicle thanks to the abandoned AirPods left inside.
Thanks to the tracking feature, authorities pinpointed the Ferrari’s location, which was parked at a nearby gas station.
Upon arrival, the police’s anti-theft unit discovered both the car and the thief, but to their dismay, he managed to escape.
Luck was, however, on the side of the police, as the thief had left his iPhone in the vehicle.
By analyzing the data on the phone, the authorities identified and arrested the suspect shortly after for stealing the Ferrari.
In the end, everything turned out well for the rightful owner, who was able to reclaim his brand-new Ferrari.
This incident highlights how a vehicle worth over half a million dollars was recovered thanks to a pair of headphones that cost only a few hundred dollars.
This story serves as a reminder of the role technology plays in assisting crime victims in retrieving their belongings.
Typically, we see this functionality with various Apple devices equipped with built-in GPS for tracking purposes.
However, it’s rare to witness such technology used effectively for a stolen vehicle.
In this case, sheer luck played a pivotal role, particularly due to the oversight of leaving the AirPods in the car.
It was a stroke of bad fortune for the thief, who remained unaware that he could be traced.
If your vehicle lacks a satellite anti-theft system—often disabled by thieves—consider adding a simple AirTag device, which allows you to track your car in case of loss or theft.
The solution is extremely economical.
The AirTag is a small disc equipped with GPS that can be discreetly hidden within the vehicle.
In the event of theft, you can utilize Apple’s app on your smartphone to see the car’s real-time location and quickly report it to law enforcement.
However, it’s essential to avoid taking matters into your own hands.
