Unveiling the Hidden Features of Google Maps’ Latest Update

Google Maps and Waze: Closer Than Ever

Google Maps and Waze have recently become closer to each other than ever before.
Google Play has updated its navigation applications, Google Maps and Waze, making them more similar and improving the user experience.

New Features for Google Maps: Incident Reporting and Parking

One of the main updates for Google Maps is a more accessible shortcut for reporting road incidents.
Users can now report accidents, traffic jams, stalled cars, police, and other emergency situations more easily.
The new alert icon is located on the right side of the screen and, when tapped, displays eight large buttons that take up the entire screen, making selecting the desired option more intuitive and faster.
This functionality has been significantly improved compared to the previous version.

Users who subsequently report the incident can confirm it or update it, news that is then shared between Google Maps and Waze, improving real-time information for all users.
Another significant addition to Google Maps is the indication of the locations of building entrances.
This feature, tested for a few months, aims to make the journey easier by accurately showing where to drop off a passenger or enter a specific building.

Additionally, the application now shows nearby parking lots, saving drivers from having to wander until they find a parking spot.
This feature was already present in Waze and now makes Google Maps even more comprehensive.
Both updates will be available on Android, iOS, and will be rolled out globally starting this Wednesday.

New Features for Waze: Monitoring Violations

In parallel, Waze has introduced new types of alerts to further improve travel safety and efficiency.
Users will now receive notifications about cameras monitoring traffic lights, speed, special lanes – such as bus lanes – and other possible violations.
This feature is currently being rolled out on Android and iOS apps, offering users updated and precise information to avoid fines and travel safely.
Waze has also improved its ability to alert users to events that could cause traffic congestion.

For example, if there is a big concert or a sports event in a region where the user is located or has recently visited, the application will issue a notification with updated traffic information in that area.
This tool helps better plan trips and avoid unexpected delays.
Lastly, Waze users will receive driving instructions, traffic updates, and alerts about road hazards directly on the lock screen via notifications.
This feature will be available for Android in August, while iOS should have the functionality by the end of the year.
