Inclusion allowance, can you buy clothes? Here are the prohibited items of clothing

As defined by the decree of the Ministry of Labor of 27 December 2023, published in the Official Journal on 6 March, the Inclusion Allowance can also be used to purchase clothes, footwear and other items of clothing.
In large sections, the spending rules of the Inclusion Allowance, in fact, recall those already foreseen for the Citizenship Income, with the legislator having identified a prohibited list of goods allowing the purchase of everything that is not part of it.
However, for this very reason there are some items of clothing that can be purchased with the so-called Adi Card and others that cannot.
And don't forget that while there are no bans on most clothing, accessories and footwear, there are limitations on the shopping card itself that could result in you being barred from using it.
So if you are wondering if it is possible to go shopping with the Inclusion Allowance, the answer is yes, as long as within certain limits.
Citizenship income and clothing: are there limits? You can purchase clothing with Inclusion Allowance regardless of price.
For example, although it goes against the rationale of the measure, it is possible to use the monthly support even for designer and expensive items.
In fact, we must not believe the popular belief according to which the Inclusion Allowance should only be used for the purchase of basic necessities.
One thing is what it should be, another is what is established by the legislator, who has not indicated a price threshold for what can be purchased.
However, this does not mean that every type of clothing can be purchased: by analyzing what is established by the legislation, in fact, we can reiterate that there are no limits – neither brand nor price – for footwear, dresses, coats, trousers, jackets, shirts, so as for accessories such as hats, scarves and more.
However, all fur items are included in the list of prohibited purchases: therefore anyone who wants to indulge their whim by buying a fur coat must know that they absolutely cannot do so.
As regards accessories, however, all jewelery items are prohibited by the legislator.
No gold necklaces and bracelets, while it is possible to purchase costume jewelery accessories, as in this case there are no limitations.
Inclusion allowance: yes to the purchase of clothing, but…
There is a however: in addition to providing a list of prohibited items – which, as seen above, include both fur and jewelery items – the legislation also identifies how to use the card.
For example, in order to prevent the money credited monthly (which, unlike the Rdc, can also be accumulated) from going to the e-commerce giants, it has been decided that the card cannot be used for online purchases.
Another rule that is important to be aware of is that the inclusion allowance can only be spent in Italy.
So if you are abroad and want to purchase an item of clothing, or any other good or service, know that you will never be able to use the Adi card.
We conclude by recalling that, with the exception of the sum that can be withdrawn each month and the bank transfer for the payment of the rent or bills, the Single Check can be used exclusively for payments via POS at commercial establishments in Italy affiliated with the circuit MasterCard.
