Who are the highest paid CEOs in the world? The ranking of the highest earning CEOs in the world shows staggering salaries.
In Italy, the average salary in the private sector is around 34,000 euros gross per year; in the United States $56,420.
No surprise: CEO salaries continue to exceed – by far – worker pay around the world.
Over the past 10 years, the money earned by CEOs of companies listed on the S&P 500 has increased by more than $5 million, reaching an average of $16.7 million in 2022.
The highest paid CEOs in the world: the ranking According to the latest data available, updated to 2022, the highest paid CEO was Stephen Schwarzman, at the helm of Blackstone Inc., one of the largest financial companies in the world.
His annual salary? Over 253 million dollars.
In the top 15 of the highest paid CEOs we find no one at the helm of an Italian company.
The richest CEO in Italy to date is Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis.

Schwarzman is President, CEO and co-founder of Blackstone, one of the world's largest alternative investment firms with over $1 trillion in assets under management (as of December 31, 2023).
Schwarzman has been involved in all phases of Blackstone's development since its founding in 1985.
The firm has investments across multiple asset classes, including private equity, where it is a global leader in traditional buyout, growth equity and real estate – it is currently the largest owner of commercial real estate in the world.
But also in multi-asset investments in the credit sector, where it is a global leader and main provider of credit for companies of all sizes.
With a total compensation of over 253 million euros, Schwarzman is currently the highest paid CEO.
2) Sundar Pichai Sundar is the CEO of Google and Alphabet and serves on the Board of Directors of Alphabet.
Under his leadership, Google has focused on developing products and services, powered by the latest advances in artificial intelligence, that offer help in moments big and small.
3) Stephen Scherr Stephen Scherr is president and CEO of Hertz.
Prior to joining the firm in February 2022, Scherr spent nearly three decades at Goldman Sachs.
He served as Chief Financial Officer from 2018 to 2021, during which time the company undertook considerable growth in its new and existing businesses.
During his time at Goldman Sachs, Stephen led some of the firm's most notable businesses, including serving as Chief Operating Officer of the Investment Banking division, global head of the Financials group and leader of the firm's consumer business.
4) Barry McCarthy Barry McCarthy is the CEO and president of Peloton.
He served as CFO of Spotify from 2015 to January 2020 and as CFO of Netflix from 1999 to 2010.
Prior to Netflix, McCarthy held various leadership positions in management consulting, investment banking, media and entertainment.
5) Nikesh Arora Nikesh Arora became president and CEO of Palo Alto Networks, an American multinational specialized in cyber security, in June 2018.
Before joining, Nikesh was president and chief operating officer of SoftBank Group Corp.
Previously, he held various positions at Google, Inc.
for approximately 10 years, including senior vice president and chief business officer, president of global sales operations and business development, and president of Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Before joining Google, Nikesh served as chief marketing officer for Deutsche Telekom AG's international T-Mobile division.
He was the CEO and founder of T-Motion PLC, which later merged with T-Mobile International in 2002.
6) Michael Rapino Michael Rapino is the president and CEO of Live Nation Entertainment and oversees the company's three divisions: Ticketmaster, Live Nation Concerts and Live Nation Sponsorship.
Since joining in 2005, Rapino has helped the company become a leader in live entertainment, issuing more than 500 million tickets and producing more than 35,000 live events annually.
Rapino is also a member of the board of directors of Live Nation Entertainment.
7) Doug Ingram Doug Ingram is president, CEO and board member since 2017 of Sarepta, a leader in precision genetic medicine with the goal of combating rare genetic diseases.
Ingram's nearly 30-year career in the pharmaceutical-biotech world began at Allergan, where he joined in 1996, holding positions of increasing responsibility until being named President in 2013.
When Allergan was acquired by Actavis in 2015, he moved to Chase Pharmaceuticals, serving as President and CEO before joining Sarepta.
8) William Ready William Ready has been the CEO and director of the board of directors of Pinterest since June 29, 2022.
He previously served as a manager at Google from January 2020 to June 2022.
Before joining Google, Ready served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of PayPal from October 2016 to July 2019 and continued to serve as executive vice president until December 2019.
From October 2011 to December 2013, he was chief executive officer of Braintree, a mobile and web payment systems company acquired by PayPal .
9) Kiwi Camara Alejandro Danao Camara, known as Kiwi Camara, is a Filipino-American lawyer and businessman known for being the founder and former CEO of CS Disco.
He also represented defendant Jammie Thomas-Rasset in the first file-sharing copyright infringement lawsuit in the United States brought by major record labels.

Aneel, co-founder of Workday in 2005, previously served as the company's co-CEO from 2009 to 2014 alongside co-founder Dave Duffield, CEO from 2014-2020 and co-CEO from 2020-2024.
