In Italy, bottled mineral water consumption is particularly high, with an average of 252 liters per capita per year, placing our country at the top in Europe, where the average is 106 liters.
This translates into a strong interest in the organoleptic and health qualities of bottled waters, leading to rankings of the best waters available.
Altroconsumo and Gambero Rosso conducted tests last year to identify the best bottled mineral waters, both natural and sparkling.
Altroconsumo compiled a list of the best natural bottled waters in terms of quality and price ratio.
Leading the list is Smeraldina Monti di Deu at 0.39 euros per liter, followed by Rocchetta at 0.33 euros per liter and Recoaro at 0.20 euros per liter.
Smeraldina, from a source in Tempio Pausania, was awarded the best-bottled water in the world in 2019.
Gambero Rosso conducted blind tests on a sample of 56 still and naturally sparkling waters available in supermarkets.
San Bernardo topped the list for its lightness and harmony, followed by Maniva and San Benedetto.
San Bernardo, sourced from the Maritime Alps, stands out for its low fixed residue and balanced mineral content, making it ideal for daily consumption.
Clavdia and Egeria ranked highest for their effervescence and taste.
Clavdia is known for its fine bubbles and freshness, while Egeria offers a balance between effervescence and flavor, suitable for both meals and tastings.
The Italian bottled water market reflects the country’s geological diversity, with waters from various regions offering unique mineral profiles.
This diversity, coupled with increasing consumer awareness of health benefits, drives the evolution of the mineral water sector in response to the demands of a discerning audience.
