Meta describes this AI as “the smartest AI assistant you can use for free.” Users can engage with Meta AI for a variety of tasks such as creating images and videos based on keywords, requesting cooking recipes, seeking study advice, and asking about tourist destinations.

Concerns from Users and Experts

Despite its capabilities, many users find the integration of Meta AI within WhatsApp to be more intrusive than beneficial.
This has led to a spike in online searches about how to disable the assistant on their devices.

Some users report that the assistant tends to activate at inappropriate times, such as when accessing the app’s search bar, making it appear unnecessary while using WhatsApp.
To address privacy concerns, Meta urges users to refrain from sharing sensitive information, including account credentials and financial details, with the AI.

Managing Meta AI Interactions

Currently, users cannot disable this built-in assistant, but they can easily delete conversation histories.
However, it’s important to note that while conversations can be removed, this action does not remove Meta AI itself from WhatsApp.

For users looking to manage their interactions, they can request the AI to delete any shared information.
The steps to delete chat histories with Meta AI are as follows:

• Open WhatsApp on your device.
• Navigate to the chat with Meta AI.
• For individual chats, simply delete the conversation or stop engaging with the virtual assistant.
• For group chats, you will need to ask the group administrator to delete them permanently.

It should be noted that Meta AI is not yet available in Italy or the rest of Europe, as the Irish Data Protection Authority has requested a delay in its launch to ensure user data safety.
